Fr. Charlie: Quite a wit, pastor
of our flock
|
HOWIE: A "Cool/Hip" Cow
|
POKEY: A peaceful
donkey, very slow-talking, non-judgmental. |
|
|
|
| BOO: A "sheepish" sheep
who is very nervous, easily worried, and bashful. |
CLYDE: Male camel who thinks he is
self-important and superior to the other animals. |
CAMILLE: Female camel who is like
Clyde and rather snobby acting. |
FR. CHARLIE: Good Morning boys and girls.
Today is a VERY special day! I’m wearing PURPLE which means this is
the first Sunday of Advent………………
(The animals come marching out in single file with Clyde
leading them. Camille has binoculars, Howie has a map in
his mouth, Boo has a flashlight, and Pokey has a backpack
on his back)
CLYDE: Hup 2-3-4, Hup 2-3-4, DETAIL…..HALT! (they
all bump into each other)! Now, go to your places. (animals
go to their designated spot) When I call your name, let me
know if you are ready. Camille, are your binoculars cleaned
so you can see through them clearly?
CAMILLE: YES, Clyde!
CLYDE: Boo….did you put batteries in your flashlight?
BOO: YES! Clyde--See??????? (shines
the light in Clyde’s
eyes)
CLYDE: Boo, STOP! Now, Howie, do you have the map?
HOWIE: (he has the map in his mouth so he is motioning yes)
CLYDE: Speak up now, brown COW!
HOWIE: (spits the map out and says) “YES, Clyde!”
CLYDE: Pokey…are the supplies in the backpack?
POKEY: YES! Clyde………..We’re ready!
FR. CHARLIE: What on earth is going on? Camille, what are
you getting ready for?
CAMILLE: Well, an animal, an animal back
on the farm, he’s
small, has a long tail, told us to get ready because…………..
HOWIE: Oh, spit it out, girl…because…today is
the beginning of ADVENT..just like you said, Fr. Charlie,
so we are going on an ADVENT..ure. You know, ADVENTURE!
FR. CHARLIE: An adventure? Howie….why do you have
a map?
HOWIE: Oh, it’s no regular map, it’s a TREASURE
map!
FR. CHARLIE: A treasure map? So, Camille,
what are the binoculars for?
CAMILLE: We’re supposed to look for a big, giant star
and pretty angels.
FR. CHARLIE: And, Boo and Pokey…what about the flashlight
and backpack?
BOO: It’s like a nightlight ‘cos I’m a
little scared of the dark. So, now I won’t get so scared
and it will help us when we’re lookin for the treasure
at night.
POKEY: And, I’ve got a shovel, a hammer, and screwdriver…you
know, things to use to get the treasure!
CLYDE: (clearing his throat) Fr. Charlie, let me explain.
Back at Old McCasey’s Farm, one of the animals told
us today was the first day of Advent, gave us this map, and
told us we could find a TREASURE!
HOWIE: Yep, we’re prepared and ready! Uh, do you wanna
come, Fr. Charlie—you can ride on Pokey’s back….
FR. CHARLIE: Uh, oh, Clyde! I bet Randy Rat told you this
and he’s up to one of his tricks!
CAMILLE: It WAS Randy Rat!! Do you mean there’s no
star, no pretty angels, and no treasure????????????
FR. CHARLIE: I’m afraid not, Camille. (THEY
ALL GASP)…..But,….Advent
can be like an adventure to find a treasure. Let me explain.
Howie, do you know much about the very first Christmas?
HOWIE: Well, I got a toy truck and a teddy bear and…..
CLYDE: Silly cow! Not YOUR first Christmas. Fr. Charlie’s
talking about the very first Christmas 2000 years ago.
FR. CHARLIE: That’s right! ..Do you realize that there
would be NO Advent now unless some people 2000 years ago
said a certain WORD? In fact, Mary was the first one to say
it. I’m sure you know who Mary is…and what word
did she say?
BOO: I know Mary! (starts singing) Mary had a little lamb,
little lamb, Mary had……
CAMILLE: No, Boo, Mary was Jesus’ Mother and since
it was the first Christmas the word she said was SANTA…you
know, for Santa Claus!
POKEY: You’re both wrong! Fr. Charlie, when Mary was
told by an angel that she was chosen to have a special baby
she said, YES!
FR. CHARLIE: Excellent, Pokey! Mary must have been afraid.
Her life was about to change but she loved God and she said, “YES”.
Howie who else said, “YES”
HOWIE: Ummm….Joseph?
FR. CHARLIE: You’re right….and the ADVENTURE
continues doesn’t it? Did anyone else say, YES?
BOO: I know, the shepherds did! An angel told them to go
to Bethlehem because a special baby had been born. They said,
YES!
CLYDE: Fr. Charlie, when the Wise Men saw a huge star in
the sky, what did they say?
CAMILLE: Oh, Clyde, they said, “Star light, star bright,
first star I see
tonight…I wish I may, I wish I might..have the wish
I wish tonight”!
FR. CHARLIE: No, Camille. They felt it was a sign that God
was leading them to a place where their Lord Jesus had been
born. It would be a long journey, but they had hope and said,
YES!
POKEY: Fr. Charlie…someone did say NO! The Innkeeper
told Mary and Joseph there was NO ROOM in the inn.
FR. CHARLIE: Well, Pokey, he did say NO, but then he kind
of said, YES. He said there’s no room in the inn but
YES, I have a place for you in the stable.
POKEY: Fr. Charlie, we forgot about all the animals in the
stable where Jesus was born! It was like the animals even
said, “YES, Mary and Joseph, use our hay for a bed.”
BOO: And the cows even let them put Jesus in their manger,
that’s the place where the Innkeeper put the straw
to feed the cows.
HOWIE: They were going to feed the straw to Jesus!!!!!!!!!!
CLYDE: Of course not, Howie! When Mary and Joseph wrapped
Jesus in a blanket, it was like the cows said, “YES,
lay him in our manger”.
BOO: And the sheep said, “YES, we will lie beside
baby Jesus and keep him warm with our wool”.
CAMILLE: WOW! What an adventure for those people and the
animals, but Fr. Charlie…how is Advent an adventure
for all of us now?
FR. CHARLIE: It’s simple…it’s all about
saying, YES! Advent is a time to prepare our hearts to WELCOME
Jesus.
CLYDE: Well, then, Fr. Charlie—I guess I’m going
to LOOK for times to say, “YES, Jesus, I will MAKE
time to spend with you!”
BOO: And I’m going to think of the Christmas star
when I look at all the Christmas lights. It wasn’t
a wishing star, it was a star of HOPE that led the Wise Men
to Jesus.
HOWIE: Hey Fr. Charlie…Randy Rat is probably laughing
because he thinks he played a trick on us but you know what?
I think we can trick him! We really can find a treasure during
Advent!
POKEY: Yep…and the treasure is JESUS! That’s
the ADVENTURE of ADVENT. We just need to remember a special
word….YES!
FR. CHARLIE: That’s right! Mary and Joseph, the shepherds,
the Wise Men, and the animals took a chance even when they
didn’t understand or were afraid. Advent begins today.
How are you going to prepare to welcome Jesus? Just begin
by saying, “YES…… I have ROOM in my heart
for you”……and let your adventure begin!
THE PUPPET PULPIT PASSWORD is…………… YES!
Each puppet will say, “YES” individually
