For the first time in the history
of St. Agatha Parish, one of our basketball teams has
won the New England CYO Championship. Our 5-th –
6th Grade Boys Team, coached by John Timmins, won the
championship by winning 3 games in two days last weekend
in Fairfield and then Bridgeport Connecticut. The boys
got to the “Elite Eight” by winning the
Massachusetts State Championship with a convincing 47-21
victory over Gate of Heaven of South Boston two weeks
ago. On Saturday, they began with a heart-stopping 45-44
win over St. Joan of Arc Parish from Providence, Rhode
Island. They followed that up with a 33-26 win later
in the day over St. Mark Parish from Bridgeport, Connecticut.
They then capped the weekend off by capturing the Championship
with a hard-fought 35-32 win over St. Elizabeth’s
from Manchester, New Hampshire, in a game played at
the University of Bridgeport. As they did throughout
the season, the boys used their trademarks of precision
passing and teamwork to bring home the trophy. Not only
is this a group of talented and skilled players, but
it is a group of fine young men who have made everyone
proud by their examples of sportsmanship, teamwork,
and exemplary behavior. They have truly represented
themselves, their families and St. Agatha Parish well.
They have been coached by John Timmins who has taught
them the game well, but more importantly has taught
them that how you win and lose is more important than
winning. Congratulations,
boys!

St. Agatha Parish’s Young Church Ministry programs
focus on the growth and development of ministry with
adolescents from grades seven through twelve. This process includes
empowering
young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in
our world today. It seeks to draw young people to responsible
participation
in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith
community and to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of
each
young person.
