Hunger Banquet
Friday April 2, 2004, 7pm
St. Agatha Parish Hall
Are You Hungry?
800 million people suffer
from chronic hunger. Every
3.6 seconds, a person dies from hunger and other preventable
causes. One may think that hunger is about
too many people and too little food. Not
true. Our rich and bountiful planet produces enough to
feed every woman, man and child on earth. The
root of hunger lies in the inequalities in access to education
and resources. The results are illiteracy, poverty, war and
the inability to grow or buy food.
What
is a Hunger Banquet?: Young Church Ministry is sponsoring A Hunger Banquet
which is a dramatic representation of the inequitable
distribution of the world's abundant food supply. The event
venue is
divided
into three separate areas representing the high, middle,
and low-income classes of citizens around the world. Participants
draw different tickets to determine where they will sit:
with the 15% of guests who enjoy a gourmet meal at an
elegant table;
with the 30% who eat a simple meal, such as pasta and sauce;
or with the 55% who eat bread and water.
Does anything else happen? During the presentation,
Guest Speakers will lead each class in a “dinner table”
discussion generating perspectives, feelings, and thoughts.
. After the
half-hour interactive presentation, social time and an open
buffet will be offered.
WHO
CAN COME: Everyone….families, young people, young adults,
adults etc. Commit early as seating is limited in
the gym.
WHAT
WILL IT COST:
$5
donation or one might want to consider a donation equal to
what it would cost one/family
to dine out at a favorite restaurant.
The ‘Hunger Banquet” is a fund raiser for Young Church Ministry’s
three summer outreach programs where our young people will
be volunteering time to help those who are unable to help
themselves. We welcome personal and business sponsorship.
