Beginning with the arrival of Sr. Savina in 1941 as the first Principal of St. Agatha School, the Sisters of St. Joseph have had a profound effect on St. Agatha Parish. From 1941 until 2014 when Sr. Cecilia Corbett retired as a Kindergarten teacher, the Sisters of St. Joseph had a strong and formative presence at St. Agatha School. In fact, a Sister of St. Joseph was Principal of the school until the retirement of Sr. Roberta Ristuccia in 2002. However, other orders of religious sisters served with distinction over the parish’s history as well. The Sisters of Charity of Halifax were instrumental in the development of the superb music program, the Outreach Program and the Religious Education Program. The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, spearheaded the expansion of the Outreach Program and numerous lay-led programs. The School Sisters of Notre Dame also had a presence in the parish for several years directing the Faith Formation Program. The parish owes a huge debt of gratitude to these women, all of whom are listed at the end of this Parish History. They are an integral part of the parish legacy.
